Alientech has added KESS3 and Powergate OBD support for the Continental UTCU4 transmission control unit, expanding coverage across Ford, Lincoln and Volkswagen applications fitted with modern 8- and 10-speed automatic transmissions.
What changed
Announced by Alientech as KESS3 Protocol Release Upgrade 3.45 on 21 August 2026, the update enables OBD-mode work on Continental UTCU4 TCUs. That means the transmission calibration can be accessed through the diagnostic port rather than requiring a BENCH connection.
Key detail for workshops: OBD access is now available for UTCU4-equipped 8FXX, 10R80 and 10R140 automatic transmissions, including high-volume Ford Ranger, Transit, F-Series and Volkswagen Amarok applications.

The update covers Ford, Lincoln and Volkswagen vehicles produced from 2017 onward, including models fitted with EcoBoost, EcoBlue, Ti-VCT and Power Stroke engine families.
