Alientech has extended KESS3’s ZF 8-speed automatic coverage to the Bosch ZF 8HP70 TCU, bringing BENCH-mode read, write and cloning to Jaguar and Land Rover — following the AL551/AL552 8HP55 updates for Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen we covered previously.
What changed
Announced by Alientech (KESS3 Protocol Release, Upgrade 3.38), the update adds BENCH mode for the Bosch ZF 8HP70 TCU, with a direct connection that doesn’t require opening the control unit.
Key detail for workshops: full BENCH-mode reading, writing and cloning on the 8HP70 — the cloning function in particular is useful when a damaged transmission control unit needs to be repaired or replaced, not just tuned.
Which vehicles are covered
The Bosch ZF 8HP70 TCU is fitted to Jaguar and Land Rover applications produced from 2009 through to post-2019 models, paired with:
- 2.0 Turbo petrol
- 3.0 V6 Supercharged
- 5.0 and 5.8 V8 petrol
- 2.0 Diesel, 2.2 TDi4, 3.0 TDV6 and 4.4 TDV8 diesel
Why it matters here
Between this update and the earlier AL551/AL552 releases, Alientech now covers most of the ZF 8-speed family used across premium Audi, Porsche, VW, Jaguar and Land Rover models — meaning combined engine ECU and transmission work is available across a much wider slice of the prestige/SUV market than a few months ago.
