Alientech has added KESS3 and Powergate OBD support for locked Bosch MG1CS049 ECUs used on BMW M and Alpina applications with the S58 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol engine.
What changed
Announced by Alientech on 7 October 2026 (KESS3 Protocol Release, Upgrade 3.62), the update adds OBD read and write after the ECU has been unlocked in BENCH mode and the dedicated patch has been applied.
Key detail for workshops: the initial unlock and patch are still required, but subsequent calibration work can be handled through the diagnostic port. Powergate support also enables remote end-user workflows.
Which vehicles are covered
The release covers selected BMW M and Alpina applications using the S58 3.0-litre bi-turbo petrol engine and Bosch MG1CS049 ECU. Confirm the exact vehicle and ECU identification in Alientech’s vehicle list before starting a job.
Why it matters here
BMW M and Alpina owners expect repeatable calibration work, while workshops want to avoid removing a protected ECU every time a revision is needed. Unlock-once, then OBD read/write, makes the workflow more practical for performance applications and follow-up adjustments.
