Alientech ZF 8HP55 TCU Support: Audi, Porsche, VW Tuning

Alientech Adds OBD & BENCH Support for Bosch ZF 8HP55 TCUs (Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen)

Alientech has rolled out two companion updates for the Bosch ZF 8HP55 “Tiptronic” automatic transmission family, adding OBD support for the AL551 unit and BENCH support (including cloning) for the AL552 unit — covering a wide range of Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen performance models.

What changed

Alientech released two KESS3 protocol updates two days apart:

  • 22 July 2026 (Upgrade 3.36): OBD support for the Bosch ZF AL551/8HP55 TCU, also available through Powergate.
  • 24 July 2026 (Upgrade 3.37): BENCH support for the Bosch ZF AL552/8HP55 TCU, adding reading, writing and full unit cloning.

Key detail for workshops: AL551 covers OBD read/write for standard workflow, while AL552 BENCH access adds cloning — useful for TCU repair or replacement, not just tuning.

Which vehicles are covered

AL551 (OBD, Upgrade 3.36) — Audi and Volkswagen cars/SUVs produced 2008 through post-2020, paired with 2.5 FSI, 4.2 V8 FSI, 6.3 W12 FSI, 2.0 TFSI, 3.0 V6 TFSI, 4.0 V8 TFSI and 3.0 TDI engines.

AL552 (BENCH, Upgrade 3.37) — Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen models from 2016 on, paired with 55 TFSI (3.0 V6), 45 TDI and 50 TDI (3.0 V6) engines.

Why it matters here

The ZF 8HP55 auto is fitted across a lot of the performance Audi/Porsche/VW range sold in Australia. OBD access covers routine TCU reprogramming, while BENCH-mode cloning on the AL552 gives workshops a real option when a transmission control unit needs to be replaced or repaired — not something every protocol update offers.
